Hi folks,
is there a way of issuing a command to tell you what switch you are on when you are logged into the FWSM ie if switch name is SW1 and the FWSM is FWSM1. How would I know that I'm on SW1?

I use the "show failover"... it will show you if you are on the "Primary" fwsm.
Regards.

Without wishing to state the obvious we used to just name the FWSM so you could match it up with the switch ie.
switch = DC-BBP-F00-DS1
FWSM = DC-BBP-F00-DS1-FWSM1
etc..

extactly what we do.
in jon's example, we use
SW-DC-BBP-F00-DS1
FW-DC-BBP-F00-DS1
FW for the FWSM
SW for the SW hosting the FWSM..
