FWSM Module upgrade reccomendation

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at upgrading our FWSM modules in our 6500's. They're the WS-SVC-FWM-1 modules.

We're running on version 3.2(12) at the moment and I'm looking to jump up to 4. Does anyone have any reccomendations around whether I should to go to 4.1(6) or 4.0(16)? There aren't any features in particular that I would need in 4.1 but wan't a good stable base to sit on for 12 months until I look at this excercise all over again

Any experience with this or advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Stewart,

You can upgrade to version 4.1.6, but you also need to check the compatibility with the switch IOS as well, I would recommend you go through the release notes for FWSM version 4.1.6:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/fwsm/fwsm41/release/notes/fwsmrn41.html

Upgrade procedure:

Hi Varun,

Thanks for the quick reply. I had had a look this morning and the software we run 12.2(33)SXI1 suits both the 4.0 and 4.1 branches. Would you suggest we just go to the latest version, or one back if it's likely to be a little more stable? I guess with 4.1.6 it's been around long enough that any issues will have been ironed out?

Cheers,

Stewart

Yes Steward, 4.1.6 is stable and always good to be on the latest code, since it would have the resolution to all the bugs in the previous codes, so no issues, you acn go ahead

Let me know if you have any other questions for me.
