How to setup/configure CISCO ASA 5512-FPWR-K9?

It’s Mark, a fresh man on Cisco security products. I need some help, would you mind do some help to guide to finish a basic setup/configuration for Cisco ASA 5512-FPWR-K9? Thanks a lot to all.

Last month, our US department bought a Cisco ASA 5512-FPWR-K9 from Newegg.com, please see more info of this product as below link:

But unfortunately, we don’t have any guy can finish the setup/configuration independently, it’s difficult to a junior IT supporter.

Here, I am searching for some help as below:

1. Should I download any software first? If so, where and which I can download?

2. How I can connect to 5512 and finish the initialization?

3. For ASDM, how I can install it and which release will be a correct one for my 5512?

4. Is there any illustrated guidance provided?

5. Is there any simulation software for ASA 5500 series firewalls?

Hi Mark,

1. If your version is 9.2.2(4) then you are good, otherwise would be good to update it. All software is downloaded from cisco.com as long as your product is registered to your account.

2. You can use ASDM or console to get into ASA for the first time. (Google "configuring ASA for the first time" and go to videos, they will show you step by step)

3. All ASA's are same as it comes to code. What works on 5555 and 5545 will work on your 5512.

5. Yes there is, for older version you can use GNS3 (much older version). For newer version you could use virtual ASA (not free).
