How to test port 0 on a Pix 501

I have a Pix 501 running software ver 6.3 that is used to allow vpn connections to a network. One day it stopped letting anyone connect, the vpn client says the remote peer is no longer responding.

I would like to test port 0 on the pix to see if it has gone bad but not sure how. Should it respond to a ping request?

This is my first experience with a Pix device so any advice is appreciated.

If it said "remote peer no longer responding" then did you see if the PIX was traffic passing through the firewall.

Where you able to ssh to the firewall?

You should be able to ping if ping is not disabled on the outside interface.
