how to turn on Pix 501 debugs

I'm trying to troubleshoot a VPN client problem.

I turned on:

debug crypto ipsec

debug crypto isakmp

logging console 7

the VPN client fails to connect. I want to know why. why can't i see crypto error messages on my console? do I need to turn something else on? I also have a syslog server going, but I'm not getting vpn-related error messages there either.

If you are truly console connected, the debugs should be showing up there. If you’re using telnet, use terminal monitor (term mon) to see the debugs.
