IF IAM INSTALLING AN IPS MODULE ON A 6500 CORE SW WITH MULTIPLE VLANS, DO I STILL NEED AN IPS APPLIANCE?
AM I AUTOMATICALLY RUNNING INLINE IPS IF ONCE I INSTALL THE MODULE ON 6500?
THANKS.

I think there is also One IOS comes that gives you both prevention and monitoring.
Module also you can purchase..

I am just learning the details of the IDSM, but AFAIK, on your questions:
1. The IDSM will monitor what you tell it, and it can reach/see, in the 6500. I believe you can have multiple virtual sensors, by doing multiple vlans/interfaces. If there are more networks to be monitored than the IDSM can reach/see, then you might need another IPS of some sort (perhaps another IDSM in the switch).
2. I believe the default is NOT inline.
HTH. Anyone more expert than I (many of you...;^) please correct me if I'm wrong.
