Hi, We have multiple ASA 5505 installed on different locations. Now we assumed that we need to have IPS feature which is not inside in ASA 5505. Now we are planning to go with open source package SNORT (IPS Solution). Can anyone tell me how its different with Cisco IPS if we compare. Please Advice!!

However i still think that you should go for a hardware IPS. ASA 5500 series comes with a lot for IPS module. You can consider purchasing one. It works excellent.

Hi,
Legacy IPS have a signature set based on which it tries to detect threats in your network while the ASA FirePOWER module or Sourcefire supplies next-generation firewall services, including Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS), Application Visibility and Control (AVC), URL filtering, and Advanced Malware Protection (AMP).
