looking for an IP

Helo,

I'm trying to know the port and the switch where an IP is connected.

I have got the IP and the MAC and I know the Cisco Works can do it. Now, I want to know if I can do it "by hand", without the Cisco Works.

Do anyone know how to do it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello ,

do the following :

1) do a sh arp and find the mac address.

2) give a command show mac-address-table | include ***** , **** is the mac-address of that desktop/server.

This command will give you the exact port in which the IP is connected to. Incase that server is not connected locally, the output will display the trunk in which the PC's request is coming from.
