Migrating from a FTD Cluster configuration to a FTD HA configuration

Hey community,

I want to migrate a pair of FTDs in a cluster configuration (Master, control) to a high-availability configuration (Active, standby). It is a live internet firewall and need to know if there is a way to approach this migration from one availability type to another without disruption? and if so, what is the best approach?

Thanks

There isn't a way to migrate from a cluster to an active/standby pair without service/traffic interruption. You need to:

  1. Break the cluster which will convert all of the cluster nodes to standalone devices
  2. The control node will retain the current configurations (e.g., interface, security policy, etc.) while the configuration/s on the data nodes will be erased
  3. Once the cluster is destroyed and the devices are running in standalone mode, you can proceed with creating an Active/Standby pair
