Multi-layer PIX firewall

We currently have 2 cisco PIX 520 in a failover arrangement. We have been asked to implement an additional layer of PIX firewall behind our current arrangement. So effectively the inside interface of the existing firewall now becomes the outside interface of the new layer of PIX and the inside interface of the new firewall now become the inside network.

This seem an over-protective network in my opinion and I've never seen such an arrangement. Has anyone done or seen this before?? If so do you know any problem that will be encountered?? Can you point be to any doc on the internet or books detailing this arrangement?

Thanks in advance

There are customers doing this, so you're not alone. The big thing is the NAT'ing on the PIX. Do you want to NAT twice, which is unnecessary, or do you just create static's on one PIX that map to themselves, effectively bypassing NAT.

If you only NAT once, do you do it on the inside or the outside PIX? It shouldn't matter which one, but you need to think about it.

I don't believe we have any docs on this.
