while working at a client site today I was examining ACL's on one of the Customers ASA boxes.

I went to the Access List section to observe.

I noticed something unusual which I had  not ever seen before in my years working with ASDM.

there are little red dots with a numeric 4 in them showing in the Service column on the Access Rules Page.

Can anyone explain the meaning fo the dots.  It does not give any data when you hover over them.

Thank You.

Hi,

I imagine that the software level they are using is 9.x?

To my understanding this refers to IPv4 while a red circle with 6 would refer to IPv6

The newer 9.x software levels use IPv4 and IPv6 in the same ACLs. You for example have "any" which is both IPv4/IPv6 and "any4" which is IPv4 and "any6" which is IPv6.

The ICMP with the 4 is in the CLI format "icmp" and ICMP with a 6 would be "icmp6" in the CLI format.

Example from my home ASA
