PIX with different CPU speeds

I have two PIX 520 units in a failover configuration. While looking at some issues, it has been noticed that they are actually different hardware as per the below config:

Primary - PIX 520, 233Mhz, 128Mb RAM, 16Mb Flash

Secondary - PIX 520, 350Mhz, 128Mb RAM, 16Mb Flash

1.Do you know if the two variations of PIX 520 are supported together in a failover cluster?

2.They have been working together for quite some time, but I want to know if it is a supported configuration

Hi,

Technically, you are supposed to have the *exact* same hardware on both sides of a failover pair. However, the scenerio you speak about will work (as you have seen). My advice would be to make the "slower" PIX as the active PIX that way if a failover should occur, the stand-by PIX should have more than enough horsepower to keep up with anything to the other PIX was doing. I don't think anyone at Cisco would balk at supporting most things with respect to this setup. Hope I was vague enough ;)
