Hi Experts,
What's the process by which IDS customers find out when new signatures (and service packs) are available? Is it the responsibility of the customer to check periodically or does Cisco automatically notify IDS customers?
Also, approx how often do new signatures become available and what's the trend been like? More often? Less often?
Thanks for any feedback.

You can sign up for IDS Active Update Notification from here:
http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/ciscosecure/ids/crypto/
...just follow the "IPS Active Update Bulletin" link near the top.
The updates come out once a week or more.

IS there a mechanism (using VMS or whatever?) to make the updates an automatic thing?? please advise?

IPS MC 2.2 (releasing soon) will support auto updating of sensors.
The sensors do have an auto update feature that is not supported by IPS MC (you have to use IDM or CLI).
If you manage your sensors via VMS, then I recommend waiting for IPS MC 2.2.
