Standby IP in Active/Active Failover

Hi,

I am running Active/Active Failover between 2 x 5516. Transparent and Routed Contexts.

For my BVI Interfaces in transparent mode context do I need to assign a standby address? If so, what does this achieve? I currently have one IP configured under my BVIs. Will the standby unit for transparent context not just use the current BVI address if primary fails?

I guess same query for routed mode context. I have an inside interface with address x.x.x.x, Why do I need standby address? Does the standby unit for the routed context not just use the main x.x.x.x IP?

Thanks

Hi

On Active/Active, you will have the 1st unit active for context 1 and 2nd unit active for context 2.

This standby IP is used to allow communication between the 2 boxes (hello packets) but also to be able to connect remotely on the standby box.

Thanks
