Hi I am just starting to learn ccna security.
I bought an asa 5510 with ver 7.2 on it. When I do a sh ver I get this.
Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 7.2(2)19
Detected an old ASDM version.
You will need to upgrade it before using ASDM.
My question is how do I upgrade it as I do not have a contract with cisco, and how do I get a contract with cisco, so i can attach it to my cisco profile. Do I need to buy the new software I am happy to I just need some help doing it.
Cisco will not let me download anything to work with this cheap firewall i need to learn on.

Hi there,
Users without service contracts can contact:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/tsd_cisco_worldwide_contacts.html
Explain that you are trying to mitigate cisco-sa-20180129-asa1 :
https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20180129-asa1
...the fixed release that you should ask for is 9.1.7-25. You should also ask for the compatible version of ASDM which I believe is 7.5(2)+ according to:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/asa/compatibility/asamatrx.html#id_59421
...but you may as well ask for the latest version asdm792.bin
cheers,
Seb.

I rang cisco and they got back to me reasonably quickly. They said no bad luck we will not help you.

That is pretty poor!
Did you point them at the cisco vulnerability page suggested, highlighting the ciscos commitment to users without contracts in light of known vulnerabilities?
