VPN Client Does Not Update DNS Settings

We are running the Cisco 3.6.2.a client connecting to 3060 concentrators. The base group on the concentrator is configured with DNS and WINS addresses and all groups inherit those settings. Occasionally a client will not be able to get to Intranet addresses when connected via VPN when they had been able to reach those addresses in prior sessions. We have discovered that the DNS settings are not found in the DNS section of the network properties of the users network adapter. The IPsec log shows the client receiving the settings and no error message to show why the settings are not updated. After the settings are manually entered the user is fine and does not seem to have the problem again. All users are W2K and are a mix of cable and dsl users. Since this is occuring more frequently, we are trying to pinpoint why this happens, but we are not able to reproduce the problem on our own systems. Any one experienced this or have a suggestion as to why this would happen?

This is possibly CSCec68049 (see http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/onebug.pl?bugid=CSCec68049&Submit=Search for details. 3.6 had a few issues with DNS servers not being populated. Try upgrading a few of your PC's to the latest 4.0 client and that should resolve it.

I have the exactly problem, but we have 4.x client installed for a long time. Did you find any other reason?

The problem continues to occur, less frequently, but it still happens. We had an instance of this just last week with a user running 4.0.5d. We could not find a reason why the DNS updates were not applied, so the manual update to the DNS settings fixed the problem.

we also encountered several issue with the latest versions and that's why we decide to keep v4.0.3(A).
