What do I do with the FirePower license file I received?

FirePower Community,

We have been receiving some feedback where users are receiving  an error message that their license is invalid!  Please review the following information which should solve your problem.

In order to properly apply a license to a FireSIGHT Managment Center, you must only copy and paste the encrypted text block into the License Form on the DC.  The only text (known as the encrypted text block) to be pasted into the text box on the Add License Page.

Hopefully this helps some of you out there having licensing issues.

I put the encrypted text and I received this error

Error

License is Invalid:Failed [ model ]
[model: 0x3c]
[expires: forever]
[node: 00:0C:29:F5:1B:BC]
[serial_number: 543829594]
[feature_id: 0xC]
[model_info: 66E:50000:HOST,66E:50000:USER]

On the ones I've done, I always put in from the line with BEGIN to the line with END. That works for me.

The ones issued recently put the "Device" and "Features" text prior to the BEGIN line. That text should be omitted.

If that doesn't work for you, open a TAC case and they will help you.

Please find the a discussion related to TAMC license PIDs for more information,

Hi,

As i am running with Active/Standby Defence Center 3500 with IOS 5.4.1.6. I added the License on Active Defence ( sensor with Protection and control ). License is not sync on standby Defence center.

Do we need additional License on secondary device ?

Please let me your comments

Regards,

Madan

Your older software version requires each DC (aka FireSIGHT Management Center or FirePOWER Management Center) have separate licenses.

Source:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/firesight/541/user-guide/FireSIGHT-System-UserGuide-v5401/Licensing.html#58828

You should upgrade to Release 6.1. That release changed the scheme as follows:

For systems using Classic Licenses, the system replicates all licenses installed on the active Firepower Management Center to the standby Firepower Management Center, instead of requiring installation of additional licenses.

Source:http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/firepower/610/configuration/guide/fpmc-config-guide-v61/firepower_management_center_high_availability.pdf

what also needs to be mentioned is that the TAMC license file actually contains two separate licenses (URL,MALWARE) and that each license needs to be installed separately. You will get an error message if you attempt to install both licenses as a single license

Thank you, this helped in my case.

The "--- BEGIN SourceFire Product License :"-string can also be pasted in with the rest, also the --- END-string, but these two first two lines...

Device: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Features: PROTECT+CONTROL

...Needs to be removed. otherwise you will get the error messege.

Maybe you ought to kick this information to your support teams, instead of wasting administrators time!!!!   I spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to paste the entire .LIC or . ZIP file into Defense Center.   I found this thread just before I was ready to call Juniper and swap the entire Network Edge out.   SERIOUSLY CISCO!!!   My exact instructions were, Paste the license file into the license field!!   I have worked with Cisco Gear for over 22 years...  Why are you making everything so complicated?
