What is considered high memory utilization on ASA 5510

We recently added about 400 users to our network for a total of 1000.  Looking at the ASDM we are holding very tight to 75% utilization and we have 256mbs.  This is also running IOS 8.2(1).  Our firewall recently crashed after a major download was forced through it.  This was after only being booted up for about a week.  We had reloaded it a week prior after having ran it for about a year without issue.  We havent made any changes in the last month other than adding more users to our network.

Hello John,

After doing a quick research here is what I found:

For the ASA 5510—Version 8.2 uses more base memory than previous releases, which might cause problems for some ASA 5510 users who are currently running low on free memory (as indicated in the

show memory output). If your current show memory output displays less than 20% free, we recommend upgrading the memory on the ASA 5510 from 256 MB to 1 GB before proceeding with the release 8.2 upgrade.

256 MB for 8.2.5 looks good to me but again for the asa 5510 in some cases you might get this problem so an upgrade for the memory would be the solution

Any other question.. Sure... Just remember to rate all of my answers.

The memory upgrade is just over $200, so we have gone ahead and ordered it.  Hopefully that resolves our issue.

Thanks,

John
