To change from a switch prompt to a module prompt, such as a router module, the sessionmod command or the switch consolemod (on Catalyst 6000 series switches) command may be issued.
When issuing the sessionmod number command, first issue the show module command to determine the module number for which you need access. In the following example, the Multilayer Switch Feature Card (MSFC) is module 15. The session 15 command connects the session to the MSFC. In order to go back to the Supervisor prompt after issuing the session command, the exit or logout command must be issued at the MSFC's prompt.

The switch consolemod command is only supported on the Catalyst 6000 series switches. In order to switch back to the Supervisor prompt in this mode, hold down the Ctrl key and press c three times. The exit or logout command does not work when the switch console command has been used to gain access to another module. If only one MSFC is installed, the module number does not need to be specified.
