Core issue

The %PLATFORM_CAT3550-1-CRASHED: [chars] error message means that the system attempts to display the crash message from the previous crash. [chars] is the crash message.

A Cisco Catalyst Switch that runs Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(19)EA1x, 12.1(20)EA1x, 12.1(20)EA2, 12.1(22)EA1, 12.2(25)SG, 12.2(25)SEA, 12.2(25)SEB, 12.2(25)EZ, or 12.2(25)EY can reload when the show cdp neighbors detail command is issued. This defect does not affect any other Cisco IOS software releases.

This problem occurs when the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) neighbor is removed exactly when the show cdp neighbors detail command is issued. This problem occurs only when a show cdp command must display the management IP address of the CDP neighbor. The problem does not occur if the show cdp neighbors command is executed without the detail option. For example, this problem can occur if the show cdp neighbor FastEthernet0/1 detail command is issued, but does not occur not when the show cdp neighbor FastEthernet0/1 command is issued.

This problem can also occur if the show cdp entry * command is issued, because this command displays the IP address of the CDP neighbor.

Resolution

In order to resolve this problem, upgrade the Cisco IOS Software on the switch to either Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(22)EA2,12.2(25)EY1, 12.2(25)SEB1, 12.2(25)SEC or to the latest maintenance release, which is available for download on Cisco Downloads.

Refer to the Software Upgrade Procedure for 3550 Series Switches section of Upgrading Software Images on Catalyst 3550 Series Switches Using the Command Line Interface for a step-by-step procedure on how to upgrade the software on a Catalyst 3550.
