Core issue
The default error message is:
%FABRIC-6-TIMEOUT_ERR: Fabric in slot [dec] reported timeout error for channel [dec] (Module [dec], fabric connection [dec])
This message indicates that the firmware code on the fabric detected that the input or output buffer does not move. In order to recover from this condition, the system automatically resynchronizes the fabric channel.
Resolution
The system automatically recovers from this condition with the use of a fabric channel resynchronization. If the system experiences this condition persistently, directly connect to the console of the fabric and the module to determine if any errors are being reported by the firmware.
As a workaround, try these options:
Issue the hw-module reset command to soft-reset the module. After the module is up again, capture the output of the show module command and the show diagnostic module all command.
Physically pull out and reseat the module firmly in the chassis to hard-reset the module. After the module is up again, capture the output of the show module command and the show diagnostic module all command.
If the problem persists, use the TAC Service Request Tool in order to open a case with Cisco Technical Support.
