Sometimes, when our internet is bogged down (high usage times), my husband switches to his mobile hotspot. This means our router, and OpenDNS, are being sidestepped. Is there any way to change the DNS server on his hotspot?

Whose mobile hotspot is it? If this is a piece of equipment you own, then maybe, depending on the configuration options in the hardware and the nature of the service. With a lot of mobile, you cannot claim the public IP as yours, so Family Shield addresses would be your choice if configuration is possible.

Depends on your specific mobile hotspot and data service prover you're using. Most mobile hotspots allow you to change the DNS settings (please check your owners manual), but carrier's may force you to use their 3G/4G DNS nameservers. If you're not forced to use the carrier's nameservers, and you can register the IP address, then content filtering would work.
