gmail is rejecting opendns - will not proceed - is there a workaround?

That's right - Google changed things around a bit so encrypted-tbn.l.google.com is now tbn.l.google.com and that list has been updated. Each of the encrypted-tbn*.gstatic domains used to be encrypted-tbn*.google.com as well.
