scan speed affected after enabling parental controls

As title says, enabling parental controls (to block access to porm, nudity, social media sites, video streaming, gaming sites etc) from some of the devices on my home network the network WiFi connected Epsom Office 960FWD printer/scanner now takes several minutes to scan a single a4 page document, then a further few minutes to process the scanned immage...upwards of 4mins per page now.

Prior to parental controls being enabled on the router (netgear nighthawk), a single a4 page scan would be complete and saved in under 1min.

Any ideas other than turning off parental controls on the router?

Copy & paste the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands to here:

nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.
netsh interface ipv4 show config

I may then see what's going on.  Also, ping your scanner by its network name.

ping <printername>

even with parent controls off now, still cant access the internet on the android devices

Unlike you said, you didn't have Live Parental Controls enabled on the Netgear router when executing the commands, but you were simply using OpenDNS Home.

Beside this, your command outputs look perfect.  There is nothing to see what could be the reason for your problems, especially not problems with the network or DNS or OpenDNS.  My suggestion is to visit a forum specific to your Epson product to see what the nerds say there.  Also worth to look into the Netgear forum to see if someone else reported similar issues around their Netgear router.

And well, your problem with Android devices is new information, but most likely totally different from your Epson scanner problem.  What is the specific error message or other evidence for not working?  Check the WLAN connectivity details on the Android devices to see if there's something wrongly configured.

Unsure if you read through all the posts, at 23:20 I advised that I disabled parent controls because i was still unable to access the internet.

I did try using the home DNS to see if this made any difference, but it didnt. The 'home' network has been deleted and with parent controls off and all devices restarted i can access the internet.

When parent control are turned on however, the bypass on my android phone still does not work.

D7000 router firmware is upto date and latest netgear geanie apk is loaded on my phone.

Ie. When i am logged in to my bypass on my phone (there is supposed to be no web filtering)... However i am blocked from the internet as if the web filtering was in effect.

"Unsure if you read through all the posts, at 23:20 I advised that I disabled parent controls"

We are in different time zones (I'm in Central Europe), so this time doesn't match mine.  You just wrote after you posted the command outputs "even with parent controls off now", so I thought you disabled them after the commands.

"When parent control are turned on however, the bypass on my android phone still does not work"

Genie is Netgear's, not OpenDNS'.  As I said, you visit the Netgear support site for Netgear related stuff.
https://community.netgear.com/t5/WiFi-Routers/ct-p/home-wifi-routers
https://www.netgear.com/support/

"When i am logged in to my bypass on my phone (there is supposed to be no web filtering)... However i am blocked from the internet as if the web filtering was in effect."

Bypass accounts work only with LPC enabled.  If you disabled it, then your normal OpenDNS Home settings take effect.

Btw, OpenDNS Home and Netgear LPC are incompatible.  Use either the one or the other, never both at the same time.

Netgear LPC

OpenDNS Home

  • Disable LPC on the router.
  • Your dashboard is only at https://dashboard.opendns.com/settings/
  • Configue the OpenDNS resolver addresses on the router.
  • Run an Updater if you have a dynamic IP address from your ISP.

Thanks. I understand netgear genie and ooendns are different, however to use netgear i was required (seemingly) required to created an opendns account and involve your company... Apologise for the confusion.

"involve your company"

I would not know if you know me having a company...
I'm a user like you, not OpenDNS staff member.

You're welcome!

"however to use netgear i was required (seemingly) required to created an opendns account"

Only if you wanted to enable LPC (Live Parental Controls), because this is being powered by OpenDNS and works in a similar (but not identical) way as their OpenDNS Home service.  But these two services are incompatible, so you cannot use both at the same time.  If you try this nevertheless (also in accident), you'll be facing inconsistent and unexpected results.

Your Epson scanner problem is likely not related to this, but your Android problems may well be.
