Cisco 2811 Router not saving any changes i am making. Help

I am brand new to cisco routers. I am just getting my feet wet. I have 2 different cisco routers, and 4 different switches. When i apply any changes to any of my other 5 devices with #copy running-config startup-config they all work. And they used to on this 2811, but for some reason they have stopped applying.

So the router has everything reset. I log in and change the hostname from Router to R1. Then i copy running-config startup-config and it says its sucessful. Then i show startup-config, and it has my change in there. Then i execute reload, or i actually reboot the device, and every time it comes back up being Router.

I was changing a bunch of other stuff, and assigning IP's and setting username and password for vty ports and what not, but everytime i would reload it would all be away, so i am simply trying to change the hostname, reboot, and have that changed.

Can someone please try and help me figure out why none of the changes are applying?

Thanks

Check the config-registry value. The recommended value should be 0x2102.

Mine is set to 0x2142

I changed it back, and now its working.

Thank you so much.  Any reason why or how that could have been changed? I know i didnt change it manually.

Thanks

0x2142 means boot into ROMmon and IGNORE the configuration.

2811 isn't really a "new" model.  The previous owner must've performed a password recovery and didn't bother to set it back.
