Hi,
Cisco Catalyst 5X00/6500 series switches can run in hybrid or native IOS mode. See the differences below.
Hybrid mode - Switch runs Cat OS image and the MSFC (layer 3 card) runs IOS image.
Native IOS - Switch and MSFC use the same native IOS image, very much like an IOS.

Only apply to 5x00/6500 switch? Could you please tell me how to switch between the modes? Will my entire current configuration be erased, once the mode changes?
Thank you

If the switch is running IOS then you get to manage both switching & routing functions from the same console.
Instead, if you are running hyrbid mode then you can telnet to the managed IP address of the switch or any configured IP on the MSFC. Alternatively, if you are in the console of the switch (supervisor card) then you can switch your console to the MSFC card by issuing the command 'session 15'. If you have dual supervisor/MSFC and if you want to session into the second MSFC then use the session # 16.
