vlan question

I am going to start setting up vlans on my network. My problem is I have machines in a 255.255.128.0 mask, I want to create the vlans in this .128 mask and not have to move all the machines out of the .128 and back down one at a time. I did get this to work, but I don't want to change half of my 1200 machines and then start having strange problems. I turned proxy-arp on and made some static routes in my last router before the internet so packets no how to get back to the vlans. Thanks for the help and hope this makes sense.
