IOS DHCP and Dynamic DNS updates for Windows Clients

Hi Guys,

In windows server DHCP scopes there is an option to tell the clients to dynamically update the DNS server.

Is the same functionality available in the Cisco IOS DHCP server? Or is this an option we could set on the Windows client itself?

I guess the other option is always to forward the DHCP requests to a couple of central windows servers across the WAN.

Apart from the client names being updated in DNS are there any other reasons it is better for a windows client to get it's DHCP lease from a windows / AD server?

Sorry - sort of a windowsy type question as well.

I think there is some DDNS support in IOS:

Back to Windows... in addition to the server setting, it is also an option you can set individually on a Windows XP client (I don't remember off the top of my head for Win2k).

However, I believe the point of getting the IP assignment (and other DHCP parameters) from a Windows AD server is so that Active Directory can more easily associate the IP address and workstation name to each other for things like RDP, RIS, and policy distribution, where authorization is derived from directory privileges.

So you will want to coordinate the AD plan with your routing setup to make sure everything works as it should.
