With Pix 6.2, Do you need to apply an access list to an interface using an access group or is there someway that the access list is automaticly applied to the IP's listed.

on any version of the PIX, access-list is always applied using access-group command on the interface.
eg;
access-list 101 permit icmp any any
access-group 101 in interface outside
