I have two 6513 chassis. There is one FWSM in each 6513. “Sh disk” shows that FAT is corrupted on both FWSM modules.

# show disk:

File Allocation Table might be corrupted. Recommend running "fsck disk:"

After running "fsck disk:" on both FWSM the following message appears:

fsck disk:

Checking the boot sector and partition table...

Checking FAT, Files and Directories...

Reclaiming unused space...

Updating FAT...

Destroying old disk cache...

Initializing disk: cache, please wait.....Done.

fsck of disk: complete

WARNING: Restoring security context mode failed.

Could this happen because of corrupted flash? What steps would you recommend to resolve this issue?

Hello,

If 'fsck' doesn't fix the corruption, you can use 'format disk:' to completely reformat the flash. You'll need to be sure that you have backup copies of your configuration files and FWSM/ASDM images as this will completely rewrite the flash.

If a 'format' still doesn't fix it, you would need to open a TAC case to get replacement units.

Hope that helps.

Will "format disk:" destroy maintenance partititon?

Thanks,

Vesna

Hi Vesna,

No, the maintenance partition is left in tact. The format command only affects the partition that you are booted into.

Hope that helps.
