Actually, there are a variety of Cisco solutions at various price-points. I usually start lower end installations with the 4210. It is capable of monitoring up to 45-50Mbps and it includes both the IDS software and the hardware to run the application. Last time I checked, ISSand Axent both sell their software-only systems for 10% more money And you’d still have to buy the PC, the Operating System, and assemble the pieces. There’s a public domain solution called "Snort" but understand you don't get any support or regular/predictable updates.I’d also be concerned about relying on public domain technology for your company's security protection.
