We are having trouble exchanging e-mail w/ another PIX user. This is the only host we have trouble communicating w/. The e-mails usually come through eventually, but there is a long lag (12+ hours). There is no indication of problems at the e-mail server.
We're wondering if "Mail Guard" could be the problem. I was considering disabling the fixup SMTP. What are the security repercussions? Does this sound like a possible fix to our problem? Any other recommendations?

We actualy had the same problem at another site that I used to work at. We resolved the problem by upgrading the PIX to a newer version. After searching the Caveat section of the CCO site we found one that describes what you we were (and you are) running into. Hope that helps.

The ploblem is that you are using a ESMTP server ( probably a MS exchange server). And the PIX mail guard (SMTP) does not understand ESTMP commands.
CISCO says that will not upgrade mail guard.
CISCO ARE VERY WRONG
