DDOS protection is only effective when done at the service provider before the traffic tries to go down your pipe to you. Any solution that relies on putting something on premise as the primary method of stopping an attack is pointless.

Arbor Networks is probably one of the most prominent DDOS mitigators globally.  You can combine technology like the ASR 9k with this.
