Using a WRVS4400N-v2 as an access point

I have an old WRVS4400N-v2 that I want to use as an access point on an existing LAN.

I changed its IP to 192.168.1.2 (192.168.1.1 is my main router) and the "reserved ip" to "192.168.1.3", disabled DHCP, and set the operation mode to "Router".  I also set the wireless SSID and WPA2 password to the same as the one advertised my main wireless router.

The problem is that if I connect via main router, I do not see the WRVS4400N.  Connections to http://192.168.1.2 time out.  As far as the main router is concerned, the WRVS4400N is not on the network - I cannot see it in the list of connected clients.

Other routers that I used for the same purpose have a specific "access point" mode, but the WRVS4400N doesn't seem to.

Please help.  Thank you!
