AS Path Access-List Regular Expression Question

Hello,

Can any please explain what Paths this AS path access list matches:

permit _64512

I understand that _64512_ would match any prefixes that had 64512 in the path and _64512$ would be prefixes that originated in the AS 64512, but am a little unclear on how _64512 functions.
