Hello,
I have to add a bgp peer on router Cisco 7206 VXR NPE-G1 and the ASN is 199393, anyway the router allows <1-65535> range number of ASN,
How can I add the ASN on my router?
Kind Regards,
Ardit

Hi Ardit,
This is because your current IOS does not support 4 byte ASN. You can still connect with this new peer by using ASN 23456 instead of 199393 (i.e. nei x.x.x.x remote-as 23456 towards this new peer). ASN 23456 has been reserved for backward compatibility with the 2 byte ASN.

I agree about IOS version - you need 4 byte ASN support.
But it's not possible to use AS 23456 as local-as (on legacy IOS); the number is used for backward compatibility of intermediaries that are not aware of 4 bytes ASN.

Hi,
The original poster refers to a new peer with a 4 byte ASN, not to a new 4 byte ASN locally.
