C899 Cellular problems

Hi everybody,

thanks for a great resource.

We have a number of C899G-LTE-GA-K9 routers. We use them for failover to 3G/4G. Usually there is a degree of flapping on the cellular connection, which normally isn't a big problem. However now and then some of the devices loose their connection entirely.  Usually i can get it up by jiggling the interface or power cycle the modem. But when i see the following error in the controller cellular 0 log i have to restart the router entirely:

[Tue May 23 11:34:09 2017] sdk version is 03.03.04.03

[Tue May 23 11:34:19 2017] Serving Network Info:
WCDMA/UMTS
Serving Network Capabilities end
[Tue May 23 11:34:19 2017] IMSI API error occurred ret = 1037

[Tue May 23 11:34:19 2017] Calling GobiGetLTETechPref with 0

[Tue May 23 11:34:19 2017] Got LTE Tech Pref: AUTO

[Tue May 23 11:34:19 2017] Tech = 0x0, Tech Pref = 0x101332c, Host Tech Pref = 0x9, sys mode = 0x0

[Tue May 23 11:34:19 2017] sdk version is 03.03.04.03

I have an EEM ping script running on there to try to keep the cellular connection up. But when this message appears in the controllers cellular0 nothing happens, instead the error just repeats.

It seems pretty self explanatory, software stops working for whatever reason on the router. But has anybody ever run into this and managed to fix it? I would hate to have to schedule a restart on all devices... pretty disruptive to our customers.

The routers are all running c800-universalk9-mz.SPA.155-3.M4a and the modem is:

Modem Firmware Version = SWI9X15C_05.05.58.00
Modem Firmware built = 2015/03/04 21:30:23
Hardware Version = 1.0
Device Model ID: MC7304

Any help is greatly appreciated. This is a growing problem because we are getting more and more connections.

Best regards

Kim

I started seeing the same problem after upgrading IOS, try using the 154-3 IOS images.  You also might want to check into link-recovery or setting up a chat-script to send AT!RESET (this reboots the cellular modem itself only, not the hwic) or AT!GRESET (resets the radio)
