Catalyst 6832-X-LE maximum ip routing throughput

We have three VSS-Cluster of two C6832-X-LE in production in the backbone of our WAN.

The WAN lines, which interconnect three Backbone sites have capacities of 10 or 20 Gbit/s.

The question is: Which is the maximum ip routing througput capacity of a Catalyst 6832-X-LE VSS-System?

Best regards,

Martin Funke.

Hello,

I think it depends on which supervisor you have. The C6800-SUP6T-XL gets you 780Mpps in hardware. Check Table 1 in the datasheet linked below:

Hello @martin.funke ,

here the datasheet

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-6840-x-switch/datasheet-c78-734470.html?dtid=osscdc000283

in table 2 two we see that performance should be 160 Gbps full duplex and up to 120 Mpps.

When you build a VSS a single supervisor will manage both chassis. The critical point can be how you build the VSL bundle.

In a case like yours the first resource that can become a bottle neck is the VSL link if traffic from internal devices reach one chassis and then have to go out the other chassis using the VSL bundle.

If you have three main sites and WAN links are 10 Gbps or 20 Gbps you should have a 4 x 10 Gbps VSL to be sure to avoid issues with the VSL bundle (worst case scenario)

Hope to help

Giuseppe
