Folks,

Has someone configured one of their core 6500 switches in HSRP mode as DHCP server for the phones. We tried to do it with little success.

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.2.12.1 10.2.12.150

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.2.13.1 10.2.13.150

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.2.14.1 10.2.14.150

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.2.15.1 10.2.15.150

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.2.16.1 10.2.16.150

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.2.17.1 10.2.17.150

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.2.18.1 10.2.18.150

!

ip dhcp pool VLAN212

network 10.2.12.0 255.255.255.0

default-router 10.2.12.1

dns-server 136.160.33.3

option 150 ip 10.2.11.12 10.2.11.11

interface Vlan211

description Voice Services VLAN

ip address 10.2.11.3 255.255.255.0

no ip redirects

standby 1 ip 10.2.11.1

standby 1 priority 105

standby 1 preempt

Shouldnt your DHCP pool say,

network 10.2.11.0 255.255.255.0

default-router 10.2.11.1

dns-server 136.160.33.3

option 150 ip 10.2.11.12 10.2.11.11

I doubt if DHCP will work with HSRP, as both routers will still respond to DHCP requests, as DHCP request are broadcasts. I would recommend, using the same pool in both switches, with half the addresses specified in each switch so that there is no overlap. If you have more than 127 phones, you will have to use a /23 mask for your subnet for each pool.
