This is Nilesh, from India, mumbai. Working as Network Engineer for Birla
sunlife Insurance Co.Ltd,
Here in my network i got Two 2610 Xm series router, where first rouer is my
Production router and another one is standby.
so there are three 2 mbps links outof which two are goin to same location
and another one goes to different location. now i have a querry like ,
can i use my second router as hot standby router as any one of my link goes
down from production router so it can be switch to my second standy router.
so instead of terminating two link which goes to same location. one i cant
connect to stnby router and utilised both router at a time. so any on of
router goes
down another can switchover.
do suggest some solution .....
also if i go for 2800 series router is there such provision of main and
standby switch over........
Thanks in advace.......

Yes, you can run HSRP on the LAN side of the routers, and have it track the status of the serial interface. Once the serial goes down, active router will hand over routing to standby router.

Be aware that if you do NAT on the router, the state information is not synced between the two routers, so you will lose all existing translations.

Yes, make sure you configure the static routes on the active and standby routes, identical.
