u need to check the cable in another c2600 router to verify that the cable is good.
sometimes u need to clear the Console line but its done from the router CLI.. anyway rebooting the Router Clears the line for Sure and then u can log through the Console Port.. good advice in case u didnt reload the router..
u can log to the router through the AUX port with the same cable..
any way if the cable is proper try to access through AUX if connection failed reload the router and try to connect through AUX or Console ..
u can also check the PC.. for isolating the problem
anyway i gave u alot of possible ways . . . try to isolate the problem through the Pc , CABLE , RLOADING ROUTER and etc..
Hope i helped u//

Yes I used the same flat light blue cable to consol to another C2600 and I was able to consol successfully. When I consol to my defective C2600 I get absolutely no output. Honestly I did not try the AUX port because I was not aware of that. Would you please explain more how to communicate with the router through AUX port?
Thank you so much

the AUX port is a async port that uses for modem connectivity its interface include DCD but it can be use with PC connect FLAT CABLE (1-8 , 2-7 3- 6 , 4-5)
there's a possible that the console port is maybe defactive but u shoukd try the aux if u didnt touch the aux line in the router configuration try to connect the PC Serial Port to the AUX port in the same way with the Console Port . . 9600 No FLOW 8 bits 1.. and i think u wiil get prompt
tell me what u got ?

Are you using the Cisco console cable (usually powder blue flat cable with a db9-rj45 adapter)?
Are you getting any output from the console (i.e., getting out put, but it's garbled, or no output at all)?
Cisco uses a "rolled" cable: pins 1-8 at one end map to pins 8 - 1(reverse order) at the other.
Here's a link with the signals & pinouts for the cable and adapter:

Did you try it at 115200 baud?
Sometime people have to reload via XModem, and boosting the console to 115KBaud makes the load "a little faster." Then they just forget to set it back to 9600,n,8,1.
The AUX port is autobaud, auto dce/dte and should be the same console as the Console port. The limitation is that it only goes to 38,400 baud (shouldn't be a limitation for a standard console).
Good Luck

Scott I tried all consol speeds including 115200 and got no output.

There is one possible scenario that could explain your syptoms. If the console port has been configured with :
no exec
There it would not accept any input.
I have seen this happen when someone wanted to disable the inactivity timeout on the console and meant to use the command :
no exec-timeout
but they abbreviated the command to no exec
The result is a useless console.
If you have any other access to this 2600 through telnet or through the aux port, can you check the config and see if perhaps the console has been configured with no exec?
If you do not have any other access then I suggest that you reload the router. If a config change was made but not written to startup config then the problem may clear up. If it does not then I would suggest using the procedure suggested in password recovery: power cycle the router, as the reload starts type the break key, set the config register to 0x2142, reload the router and it will bypass the startup config.

I did not disable the consol default timeout. I reloaded the router several times and tried the password recovery (Control + Break combination) and still did not get any output. The router has no configuration thats why I can not access it through telnet.
Thanks Rick

If you have reloaded the router several times was there output to the console while the router was rebooting? To check for the possibility that the console speed was somehow changed I would suggest setting the speed in your terminal emulator to each of the speeds, reload the router and check for output on the console.
If you find a speed where there is output then you will know what speed the console is set for and you will have verified some of the functionality of the console.
If you try all of the speeds and reloading does not display output then it may be necessary to consider the possibility that there may be a hardware problem on the console.

Thanks Rick again, yes I got no output after reloading the router on every consol speed. As you said I think its a hardware failure on the consol. Do you have any idea where to fix this hardware problem? By the way I live in Houston TX
Thanks for everything

In my experience we have had a few routers with problems on the console. They were covered under a maintenance contract and we returned them under the maintenance contract. If your router is covered under a maintenance contract then contact the maintenance people. If it is not covered by maintenance contract then I have very little idea about where to fix it.
