Split horizon on frame-relay

Steph1963

Hi,

Is there anyone who can confirmed me that split-horizon is disabled by default when the frame-relay is directly configured on a physical interface (not a sub-interface) while split-horizon is enabled by default if configured on sub-interface (not sure if is point-to-point, point-to-multipoint or both). Found different explanation between books and Cisco inforation.

Thanks for your help

Hi Stephane,

For RIP, the situation is as follows:

  • On physical Frame Relay interface, it is deactivated by default
  • On multipoint Frame Relay subinterface, it is activated by default

For EIGRP, the split horizon is activated by default both on physical Frame Relay interface and on multipoint subinterfaces. This may be the source of the confusion.

On point-to-point subinterfaces, the split horizon is activated by default both for EIGRP and RIP.

Best regards,

Peter
