Resolution

  1. Verify that the PIX Firewall is running PIX Software version 6.0 or later.
  2. Verify that the PIX Firewall has a VPN Data Encryption Standard (DES) activation key.
  3. Verify that PDM has been installed on the Flash of the PIX Firewall, as indicated in the output of the show version command.

Note: When installing PDM, issue the copy tftp flash:pdm command.

  4. Issue the setup command and enter a domain name. Verify that the year is correct and enter the IP address of your web browser.
  5. Verify that your web browser is supported. Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5.5 or 6.0 without Java plug-ins are recommended.
  6. Point your browser to the IP address of the PIX Firewall. For example, if the inside IP address is 192.168.1.2, type https://192.168.1.2/ in your browser window.
  7. You should be prompted to authenticate. Leave the username blank and enter the PIX enable password for the password.
  8. If you still cannot connect to the PIX Firewall with PDM, refer to Troubleshooting PIX Device Manager.

If your problem persists, open a service request with Cisco Technical Support.
