4 Gpbs port and an ISL

Greetings,

When using the new 4 Gbps cards, you don't loose the ability to use the other ports in the port group when the port becomes an E/TE port. I would like to know if you need to dedicate the 4 Gbps speed on the port when it becomes an E port. I was told today that you can set 4 Gbps and leave it in shared mode. I was a bit surprised at this as I thought the E port had to be dedicated.

I will find out tomorrow if that is possible but I would like the gospel truth on it. I think you need to dedicate it.

A 4G port can be shared. Probably should be dedicated just to make sure if you expect 4G of data to traverse it at a peak moment. It is the 32 port line cards that require ports 2-4 of a port group to be turned down if the 1st port is a E/TE link. These blades are designed as oversubscribed and that is why. The 16 port blades do not have that oversubscription in the design and any of the 16 ports can be E/TE.
