We have two fabrics with four 9509’s and want to add two 9216i’s into the fabrics, to test a new location that is coming on-line soon. The 9509’s are running 3.3(1c) but the 9216i’s are running 3.3(4a), will that be a problem? Also can you look at the steps below to see if I have got it right to add the 9216i’s.
Take a backup of the current configuration on all 4 switches (as we have some local VSAN’s on each switch).
Downgrade the firmware on the 9216i’s if needed.
Clear current config on 9216i’s.
Setup Admin password and other accounts locally.
Setup Admin ports on 9216i’s.
Configure FCIP ports (Profile etc) on 9509 & 9216i to use as ISL between switches, does this connection have to be with the Principle switch?
Setup local VSAN’s on 9216i’s if needed.
Will the VSAN’s that are stretched across locations on the 9509’s be copied to the 9216i? Or do I need to allow those VSAN’s across the new ISL?
How do I or do I need to copy the configuration from one of the 9509’s (edit for new switch) and copy onto the 9216i?
Have I over complicated the process, is it plug in the new switch and configure the ISL?
Thanks

is 9216i eventually going to move to another location and connect to 9509 via FCIP ?

The 9216i will go to test that the new location works and we have SAN connectivity. Once the testing has been done and we can prove that we can see the storage at the other location. The 9216i's will be removed and not used again in these fabric's. Two of the current 9509's will be moved to that location (from the current) and plugged back into the Fabric's.
They (9216i's) will use new FCIP links to connect to the 9509's.

I carry out the Basic configuration on the 9216i’s and setup the VSAN that will use the ISL (or do I use the existing ISL VSAN) Trunk the ISL just to use that VSAN. No other VSAN’s are needed unless I want to talk to the Storage array’s at the other location and if so create the VSAN on the 9216i’s and allow on the Trunk. That should work?
What about removing the switches? Do I just remove the used VSAN’s on the 9216i’s and power off?
Cheers
