I've searched and found a couple of older posts (2005 and 2007) about this and the answers at the time were along the lines of "Not available" and "Not yet, on the roadmap".
I'm hoping that the answer has changed by now, so...
Is it possible to add the port "Description" to the email alerts that we receive when a link goes offline/online such as:
System Name:mds-switch-1
Time of Event:2010-12-06 07:35:56 GMT+00:00 Event Description:SYSLOG_ALERT 2010 Dec 6 07:35:56 mds-switch-1 %PORT-2-IF_DOWN_LINK_FAILURE: %$VSAN 130%$ Interface fc2/13 *****DESCRIPTION***** is down (Link failure)
These notifications would be MUCH more useful to on-call, operations and technical staff if that info was included.
Thank you,
Steve

Steve,
From what I understand, this has been added to NX-OS 4.x and later. I am not able to test at the momment, but if I can I will confirm for you.

Mike,
That would be great news. We are on NX-OS version 4.2(3a) so hopefully it is possible. I'll also start plowing through the documentation.
Thank you for the assistance,
Steve

Okay...I got to testing and can confirm that the syslog messsage at 5.0(1a) does contain the switch port description. The same test on a box running NX-OS 4.2(7) does not provide the switch port description in the syslog message when the link flaps. I did not test with call home, but I would imagine if the information is in the syslog message, it would be in the call home alert email.
-hope this helps,
Mike

Ok, thanks for checking on this Mike. I'll have to look at going to NS-OX 5 here soon.
