Cisco MDS getting the server WWPN question

I'm very new to Cisco MDS in general. Just wondering for the best practice in retrieving the server WWPN to use for a zoning config - is it best to retrieve the ones defined in the HBA FC ports of the server (CIMC) or in the OS layer (Linux, systool etc)?

If these are Cisco UCS standalone servers, then yes, use the CIMC, Network adapters section, and go into the vHBA section to retrieve (or create) vHBAs which also allow you to modify the WWPNs for each vHBA.

OSs, assuming correct drivers are loaded should also be able to query the vHBA configs, but your CIMCs adapter vHBA configs should be your source of truth.
