Determining DCNM event forwarding severity

Hey all - I'm probably being daft here, but if I want to setup email alerts for port up / port down or hardware issues, how do I determine what the severity is for each alarm?

For example, I have the severity of port up / down alerts set to 'alert' but no alarms are firing even though I am bringing ports up and down.

Thanks for the response, but I'm not so sure the answer to my question is in these config guides.  I just opened up a ticket with Cisco, and they didn't have an immediate answer, but will be getting back to me.
