hi, I have a novice isl question.
I have 2 new 9506 switches, they are seperate fabrics. we have some older switches that I would like to ISL to them.
By looking at the older switches I see the way they are ISLed and want to understand if this is correct and I should replicate this setup.
Basically I see port trunks ISLs between the switches, port fc1/10 and fc1/10 are TE ports going from switch A to ports fc1/20 fc1/21 on switch B.
Should I replicate this setup on the new switches ?
1.
on 9506 switch A create 2 E ports, fc1/47 fc 2/47
on 9506 switch B create 2 E ports, fc1/47 fc 2/47
2.
on old Switch create 4 E ports, port fc1/1, fc1/2, fc1/6, fc1/7
3.
Connect the fiber cables
4.
create trunks on new and old switches
Do I need to be concerend about vsans's merging or disrupting any data ?
old switch has a vsan 2 that everything is in and new switches have vsan 2 and 3.
I want the targets that in vsan 2 on the old switch to be able to talk to targets in vsan 2 and 3 on the new switch.
sorry if this is confusing, I am still learning as I go along. I dont have a lab so everything is in production and I have to be careful not to blow it up.

so let's say you use VSAN 5 on switch 9506_A and VSAN 6 on switch 9506_B. Since your 9126 does not support IVR you will need to create matching VSANs on both 9126 and then merge them with 9506s. Ports on 9506 and 9126s will need to be configured as TE and trunk VSAN 5 or VSAN 6 on their respecive fabric.

I just checked my older switches, 9216s, they supposedly support IVR, because I have the option to do it..
when I press on IVR wizard in fabric manager i get this prompt;
"some switches are IVR NAT capable do you wish to use IVR NAT mode" ?

ah..it's a little brother of 9222i so it does support IVR, is it licensed ?
"sh lic"

sh lic does not give me any output.
When i look at it in fabric manager, I see that ENTERPRISE_PKG is unlicensed inGracePeriod for 119 days 22 hours

there is the grace period where you can use IVR without purchasing either ENTERPRISE_PKG for IVR over FC, but if you think this will be a permanent solution then you either buy the license or merge VSANs.

if you take a look at that original picture with the switches, old switch 1 and old switch 2 both have IVR enabled.
if i ISL them can I stop the zones from merging? I want only specific hosts to be able to get to the new switches, I dont need everything. Could I do this type of setup ?

can you break connection between switch 1 and switch 2 and connect switch 1 to 9506_A and connect switch 2 to 9506_B. You need to maintain fabric A and B separation.

i cant do that, switch 2 has storage that it gets from switch 1

can you modify your drawing with pictures of what's connected to each switch in the old fabric.
