Solved: MDS 9148 HA Configuration

Guys, I am sure this is a silly question for experienced SAN admins. I am completely new to FC zoning.

I am working on a project where we have 2x MDS 9148S 16G FC switch, w/ 12 active ports + 8G SW SFPs for a single site. I believe this is for HA.

So how do I need to configure them in HA?

After initializing switch 1 with IP, NTP and other details, what do I need to add second switch to this? I believe this is not ISL.

Can someone guide me any documentation for this?

Hi Joseph

Best practise in FC: 2 separate fabrics A and B; in your case: 2 isolated switches, with no ISL in between. Servers and disk subsystem will then be dual homed to either switch.

Just configure 2 separate VSAN's (of course different from 1); e.g. VSAN 10 for MDS 1 and VSAN 11 for MDS 2.
